Oceans and Seas

Oceans and Seas cover 70% of the Earth's surface. They have a large influence on global climate and weather patterns and are also a major source of nutrition.

The degradation of the oceans and seas seriously threatens food security and the eradication of poverty round the world. There is so much work to be done to protect this wonderful environment.

We must stop treating the sea as a global garbage can and protect all its natural wonders.

More than one million species of plants and animals live in the seas and oceans. say there may be as many nine million undiscovered yet.

We need to save the seas and the oceans ad make the world a better place for all of us...for generations to come.

Strength to Face Temptations

Sometimes, we face with temptations that looks like impossible for us to resist from falling for them. From time to time, we may have ended up giving into the temptations and sin.

Therefore, whenever we find that we are not strong enough to say no to those temptations, we should always pray to our heavenly father and ask him for his strength to handle them.

In Luke 22:40, Jesus told his followers to "Pray for strength against temptation".

Be a Winner

The winner is always part of the answer.
The loser is always part of the problem.

The winner always has a program.
The loser always has an excuse.

The winner says, "Let me do it for you".
The loser says, "That is not my job".

The winner sees an answer for every problem.
The loser sees a problem for every answer.

The winner sees a green near every sand trap.
The loser sees a sand trap near every green.

The winner says it may be difficult but it is possible.
The loser says it may be possible but it is too difficult.

The roads in our life

We have to make a lot of decisions in our life...
It can be something as small as deciding what to eat for lunch, where to hangout on the weekend...
Or it can be something important like whether you should take a particular course, what type of job you should look for, when should you get married....

We are making more and more decision as time goes by...
There are times we wish that some of the decisions that we have made can be changed but we can't...
Sometimes we still try to change certain things that have been done although we know that there is almost nothing that we can do about it...
We will never be able to change the past, the only thing we can do is to learn from the decisions we have made...

Here is a more original version of "The Road Not Taken", you may want to watch it or you may not want to watch it... Haha... And the paragraphs below it is the full text of the poem...

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
two roads diverged in a wood, and I --
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Eternal Life

As usual, when you are sick or not well, you can always go to see a doctor and get some medicine or perform some treatment, then you will feel better. But we all also know that it is a fact that everyone who live on earth will die. We cannot live on earth forever.

However, if you believe in Jesus as your Savior, he promises that you will have a new life in heaven! Isn't this a good news to all of us? Yeah, it is a good news! Come, lets spread this good news! =)

HTML5 Canvas Experiment

html5 canvas experiment

Click here to launch the experiment! (beware: sophisticated browser needed)

HTML5 is getting a lot of love lately. With the arrival of FireFox 3.5, Safari 4 and the new betas of Google Chrome and Opera, browsers support some great new features including canvas and the new audio/video tags. Most interesting: modern mobile devices like the iPhone or Android-based phones also support new standards in favor of Flash. The future looks bright for HTML5.

Time for us to play with this technology. We’ve created a litttle experiment which loads 100 tweets related to HTML5 and displays them using a javascript-based particle engine. Each particle represents a tweet – click on one of them and it’ll appear on the screen.

The original particle engine was ported from a Flex/AS3 project that we’ve created to javascript. We’re using processing.js for particle rendering on canvas which is a very useful graphics library created by John Resig. The music will only be played if the browser supports the audio tag. To detect if the audio or canvas feature is present we use the awesome modernizr library. We could have used a fallback solution like playing the sound via Flash. But this experiment is about HTML5 – and who needs Flash anyway?

Big thanks to spokenlounge.com for supporting us and for providing the mp3 track.

International Youth Day 2009

SUSTAINABILITY: Our Challenge. Our Future.

Sustainability does not only refer to maintaining environmental balance and renewal. Sustainability encapsulates three facets of life: the environment, society and the economy. We live our lives in the overlaps and intersections of these facets, and our actions and attitudes help shape them. Their changing shapes in turn affect the way we are able to live our lives. The negative effects of unsustainable behaviour are not easily contained. As has been proven by the global crises in food, the economy and the environment, the concept of the global village has gone beyond being a useful analogy to being a hard reality, making clear the need to adopt a global sense of social responsibility.

With these things in mind, as the energizers of today and the holders of tomorrow, it is imperative that youth embrace the challenge of sustainability in its fullness as they help pave the way forward through the 21st century and beyond. Youth action, inclusion, and their full participation are key to developing today’s world for the generations of today and tomorrow and central to a sustainable existence.

How you can celebrate the day

Team up!

It is a great opportunity to rally support and get key actors involved - Governments, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, businesses, and young people - to focus on what has been done to further the World Programme of Action for Youth.

Organize!

Hold forums, public discussions and information campaigns in support of young people focusing on youth issues and how they can be addressed.

Celebrate!

Plan and organize performances everywhere to showcase - and celebrate – the fact that youth contribute to the societies in which they live. Convene exchanges and dialogues focusing on the rich and varied skills, interests and aspirations of young people.

Take action!

A major focus of the Day is practical action to further encourage the empowerment and participation of youth in the processes and decisions that affect their lives. The media have especially important role to play in support of the observance of the Day to promote public awareness of youth issues.

The United Nations Programme on Youth is encouraging youth organisations around the world to host community barter fairs for International Youth Day. Remember, with bartering there is no money involved, only pure exchange of goods and services.

Think

If you think you are beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you don't.
If you like to win, but you think you can't,
It is almost certain you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost.
For out of the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow's will,
It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are.
You've got to think high to rise,
You've got to be sure of yourself before,
You can ever win a prize.

Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can!

Put the Bible in Your Heart

~ Study It with Heart ~

Approach Scripture with enthusiasm! The psalmist describes the anticipation of learning God's precepts this way: "How sweet are Your Words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!" (Psalm 119:103, NASB)

~ Take It to Heart ~

I have lived long enough to realize that I desperately need truth in my life. By now, I've gotten just enough intelligence to be dangerous. I've gotten just enough man's wisdom to know it isn't trustworthy. I need His yes and no, His light to expose my darkness, His precepts to steel my convictions. His Word provides all that.

~ Learn It by Heart ~

Tradition tells us that the Jewish mothers of the first century taught their children to pray, "Into Your hands I commit my spirit" (Psalm 31:5). During Jesus' last hour on the cross, He repeated the same Scripture, most likely having memorized it as child at Mary's knee. I don't know of any discipline that will transform thoughts better than memorizing the Word. How urgently we need truth riveted to our hearts.

What the Bible Does

~ Provides Direction ~

~ Teaches Truth ~

~ Builds Faith ~

~ Changes Lives ~

~ Improves Character ~

~ Calms Fears ~

~ Comforts Hurts ~

~ Instills Hope ~

~ Prepares One For Eternity ~

Healthy Benefits for Some Types of Fruits

KIWI: Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

APPLE: An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

ORANGE: Sweetest medicine, eating 2 to 4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. They are also a key source of lycopene - the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes.

How Should One Eat Fruits

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! - FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.. If you eat fruit on an empty stomach, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD - Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.

So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining - every time I eat water-melon I burp, when I eat durian (fruit from Asia with a foul smell yet delicious flavor) my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet etc... - actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat!

Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes all these will not happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the Secret of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weigh t.

When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't even drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all.. You only get to taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it.

You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!

A Good Reminder from the Bible

Here is something that i got to come across while reading bible:

"You must not do wrong just because everyone else is doing it"

I would like to share it with you guys that got to read my blog.
This applies to a lot of things that happen in life.
It is reminding us we should not just simply follow what people are doing.

This is especially important in reminding us not do do things that are actually wrong but a lot of people are doing them as if those things are just something normal to do.

Knowing the Outcome of Something

On the 4th of March 2009, I have got to know about the outcome of something that i have wanted to know.

I was hoping to know about it earlier which is before the battery recharging period ends although i know it was not possible. Haha, lol.

Well, the outcome of it is quite okay or should i say it can be considered as good.

I would like to thank those that have been helping me and supporting me in achieving it.

Need to Get Things Ready and Started

The time period for recharging battery is now over.
It is now time to get ready and alert again.

Time has always been passing quickly just like usual.
Things will need to get started by now.

The things that need to be done will not be easy.
But working hard and smart will help.

The actual outcomes of our efforts cannot always be predicted.
But what we need to do is to remember to try our best.

I think it will help in making certain things to become better.
I guess it is right and I should clear them up.

Lego Mindstorms Nxt Robo Flush

Have you ever feel tired or lazy to flush your own toilet?
Why not try build a Robo Flush using Lego Mindstorms Nxt?

It can then help you to flush your toilet automatically.
Try imagine that if you have an automatic flush at home.
It will just be like those that are available at some public toilets.

This is a picture of how a Robo Flush can look like:
Photobucket
You can build a one that looks different as you like.

Lets look at some pictures with descriptions of how it works.

The Flusher:
Photobucket
The flusher is mounted under the toilet bowl cover. This is to make it more stable with the extra weight. No gearing is required for flushing the toilet. The energy generated by the Nxt motor is strong enough to flush.

The Nxt and Manual Flush:
Photobucket
The program for this robot will be more complicated if it is being programmed using the Nxt graphical language as compare to other programming languages such as Java.

The Ultrasonic Sensor:
Photobucket
What the ultrasonic sensor does is it will wait until it detects someone within the range in the program and then wait until that person is out of the range for detection. The Robo Flush will then say a polite thank you and flush the toilet after that.

Here is a video clip of the Robo Flush in action:

What do you think about the idea of this Robo Flush?

Not bad right?
Maybe you can try build your own one for the toilet at your house.
